One of the main problems of young people in Hatay is a lack of English language proficiency. We believe that English is the key to many opportunities. That’s why our organization is currently carrying out two activities to enable young people to overcome the insecurities connected to speaking English.
English Speaking Club is conducted by our Italian volunteers twice a week. That represents a good chance for young people to understand that English is an international language for many non-native speakers. Don’t need to speak like a native; keep calm and let yourself go! Under the supervision of our Italian volunteers, participants gather to talk about different topics, integrating a phase of open debate by sharing and comparing ideas with a moment dedicated to a game or a more active workshop related to the topic.
English Speaking Club sessions are conducted in evenings for those who cannot join daytime sessions by the head of the NGO, Ahmet Saldıran and Serpil Akgün, a member, both English Language teachers experienced in non-formal education methods thanks to their participation in several Erasmus+ projects. During these structured sessions, participants are motivated to speak in English through icebreakers, games, work in pairs/small groups, interactive role-playing games, simulations, energizers, team-building activities, etc.
